“Pd as your embedded audio engine” will teach all about embedding libpd as the sound engine for your app, whether its iPhone, Android, Java, OpenFrameworks, Processing, etc. This workshop provides a broad spectrum of different ways of connecting Pd to other things. Having hardware isn’t a requirement either. The workshop will cover ways of interfacing with Pd from computer to computer. Bring your laptop and devices that you want to install libpd on (Android, iPhone, etc.)

HTML and/or programming knowledge will certainly help. The aim of this workshop is to give a broad spectrum of different ways to interface to Pd. So it will be dipping very slightly into Python, C, Java, Javascript, but this is usually “glue code” and all of the code will be fully provided. You do not need to be proficient in these languages at all, the workshop will also cover methods that also just use Pd with no code at all.

Harness the power of an Eplilog 35 Watt Laser! In this class you’ll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.

In this two hour class, we’ll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the “go” button on the laser. We’ll cover safety and basic design skills in Inkscape and you’ll learn how to do a burninate test to find out if something is laserable. After the two hours, you’ll have made a plaque for your door. (The extra two hours are for project completion time, but aren’t necessary for learning the tools.)

After learning the basics, each student will create their own design and lasercut it on the laser! A $10 lab fee is included in the ticket price and covers acrylic and time on the laser cutter to cut and etch it.

This class is required for coming in to do work on the laser independantly. If you get inspired, you can come back and laser your objects.

This Satuday, March 26th, from 1-5 pm we’ll be having one of our periodic, super-awesome Arduino and soldering 101 classes!  You’ll learn to solder!  You’ll learn to program!  You’ll learn to use microcontrollers!  In fact, you’ll walk out the door twenty times more talented and amazing than you were when you walked in– and you’ll take a an Arduino-compatible board you assembled yourself with you.

In this four hour class you’ll:

* Solder together a Freeduino board (an Arduino Duemilanove-compatible board)
* Learn how to program it using the Arduino environment
* Wire up several circuits and load up code to read sensors and light LEDs
* Understand variables, functions, and basic Arduino functionality
* And more!

When you leave, you’ll have a micro-controller, a mini-USB cable and a few programs to play with.

You’ll need to bring a laptop with the Arduino environment installed. It’s available for all platforms at http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software. (If you don’t have access to a laptop, please drop us a line at [email protected] ahead of time and we’ll try to find a spare for the day.)

Best known for Pirates of the Amazon, Skate the Web and his latest work FB Resistance, he has exhibited work worldwide and has been covered by the NY Times, LA Times, Wired, Spiegel, 3sat(TV) and Liberation.fr.

Some friends of mine have a house in the mountains in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  In the winter they dig a luge track in the (many feet of) snow in their yard and have timed sled races to see who can make it down the fastest. They call it the Mario Cup. I went out there last week with my buddy Mario (a member at Artisan’s Asylum and the namesake of the race) and we made some improvements to the system. Details below.
