TLDR; NYC Resistor now has TWO craft nights each week – Monday Craft Night and Thursday Craft Night. This is just a naming change, each night’s activities remain unchanged.

Why the change? We used to have just one Craft Night, and then folks wanted more laser time, so we started Laser Nights on Mondays. But the two nights are very similar, and the names were a bit confusing, so we voted to call them both Craft Night.

What is a Craft Night, anyway? If you’ve never been to a Craft Night before, you should! These are our main public events. Come hang out, work on a project, talk with other people about their projects, and/or learn something new. Craft Nights are Mondays @ 7:30pm til close, and Thursdays @ 6:30pm til close. 

We also have a knitting circle that meets every other Monday during Craft Night (check the calendar – the next one is May 16th, 2016). Bring your existing project and knit with us, or if you don’t know how to knit, we’ll teach you! We have spare needles & yarn. Crochet, needlepoint, and other related activities also welcome.

It’s the last week before the show and everyone’s heads down putting the finishing touches on some really awesome projects. We’ll preview a couple more this week, but here’s a quick preview of the music from DJ Teddy Roosevelt and Dima Markus.

We’ve still got room in Saturday’s Laser Cutting class! Come learn how to use our magical laser cutter.

In this three hour class, we’ll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the “go” button on the laser. We’ll cover safety, basic file preparation, and learn how to do a burninate test to find out if a material is laserable. After the three hours, you’ll have made a plaque for your door, a keychain, a simple box or something slightly ambitious.  (There is lab time for laser cutting, questions and answers, and working with Inkscape, Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.)

Nick Brewer is bringing two projects to this year’s Interactive Show, a suitcase photo booth and a tiny arcade cabinet.

I tend to draw inspiration from taking new technology (usually Raspberry Pi’s) and installing it into old/unusual places. The photo booth is actually built out of a suitcase I found in a rural Michigan thrift store, and the portable arcade is designed to look like a nice jewelry box, but with a full game system inside.
