Binary Count Off – Can YOU Compete?
Ok, there have been a few people bragging that they can count in binary on their fingers faster than anyone else. Enough trash talking! I want evidence! Here’s what you do if you want to participate in the first ever binary count off.
1. Learn to count in binary.
2. Practice.
3. Make a video showing your skills to the sound of Thumbuki’s Binary Solo MP3 which he has released to the world under a CC license. How high can you count in the 31 seconds it takes to listen to his MP3?
5. Get your video done by Sunday night, February 22nd.
6. Post a comment here with a link to your video!
7. I’ll put together a panel of judges and whoever they decides has the fastest binary counting video wins.
8. I will send the winner a Things t-shirt in whatever size you like. I have some girlie shaped t-shirts too, so this contest is not just for guys!
I rarely go to the post office. This is huge! I can’t wait to see if people are just talking or if they actually have some skills. Bring it!
(It will become very interesting if someone from FAT Lab competes!)

HACKER WAR – FAT Lab vs. NYC Resistor
Fat Lab has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged NYCResistor to a war. From Feb 15th – March 15th we’ll be tracking website hits, YouTube views, Twitter followers, Facebook fans, RSS subscribers… whoever posts the biggest gains wins. Grading will be conducted by Internet Famous Class technology.
Official war page w/ preliminary stats is available here.
After looking at that link, I’m a little nervous, how are we going to compete with the amount of eyeballs that have seen the things they have done?
We’ve got a strategy to create and release awesome projects this month.
You can help NYCResistor win!

How to delete Windows – The FUN Way!
Srsly, don’t try this at home. Unless you want to replace your OS with Linux (which is what you should want). And if that’s the case, mix this game with sapphire and tonic! Apply liberally.
Super big props to Eric Skiff and Kellbot who were guests in this Things video! More info on my blog.

Happy V-Day!
Sure it’s a shite holiday designed to take advantage of one of the deepest human emotions… but hey, it’s nice to let people know you love them. So here’s a daft punk gif. I love you internet. You’re awesome. Yes, even you 4chan.
Laser down!
A quick note: our R1 filtration droid finally gave up its wee little electronic ghost this week, so the laser will be unavailable until replacement parts arrive. The L2 and L3 filters apparently took a little more carbon scoring than they could handle. We expect we will once again be vaporizing materials in futuristic fashion within a week or two.
OpenStreetMaps Mapping Parties this Weekend
Russ Nelson is going to be in town and he’s organized an OpenStreetMap mapping party!
Hey, want to come out, and make NYC a better place to live whilst having fun at the same time? OpenStreetMap is a community-generated Open Source map of everything you think is interesting. “If you want it mapped right, you’ve got to map it yourself.” Don’t have the skills? Well, that’s what a mapping party is for! We’ll have GPS receivers to loan out, we’ll give you some instruction, and turn you loose on an unsuspecting city. You gather interesting positional data, come back, and we’ll show you how to place that on the map. Give it an hour or so, and it shows up on the map that everyone can see. The parties are Saturday 2/14 and Sunday 2/15, 11AM to 4PM, both at Radiance Tea House south of Central Park South. Details here on the OpenStreetMap wiki
Looks like fun!
