DIY Gold Plating Class on Saturday, Feb 20

Want to learn to conjure gold? Of course you do.

OK, while we can’t technically teach you alchemy, we can teach you how to wield the magic of electrochemistry! We have a DIY Gold Plating workshop coming up on Saturday, February 20th. Bring your own jewelry, learn some awesome stuff about electrochemistry, and leave with your gold-plated jewelry. You can even gold plate an entire Apple Watch!

Jewelry in this class means: small pendants, earrings, rings, anything that is metal and less than an inch and a half in diameter. Metals that work are stainless steel, copper, brass, nickel, and silver (but not aluminum). We won’t be gold plating chains.

Last weekend, NYC Resistor members Cameron Cundiff, Caroline Sinders and David Huerta #disrupted the Stupid Shit No One Needs and Terrible Ideas Hackathon at ITP. Among the Cheez Whiz 3D Printer, VR Fireplace and Browse-with-Guy Chrome extension, they made two projects that helped dumb-up the Stupid Hackathon to a new level:

My main project of 2015 is finally done. I wrote a book! Learning React Native is a practical guide to using JavaScript to build mobile apps for iOS and Android, taking you from the very basic starter application through deploying to the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.

Learn about LEDs! Circuits! Tiny Clothing! And share a love for ridiculous things by making your own light-up soft circuit toy this Sunday 3-6pm at NYC Resistor. Grab your ticket here!

We’ll provide all the supplies and teach you about things like conductive sewing thread and conductive cloth. We’ll also provide a blank plushie and plenty of fabric and other supplies to decorate it however you’d like. In the end you’ll walk away with some great knowledge of electronics, LEDs, and a light up thing you can hug! Perhaps your own tiny voodoo doll that only lights up when you stick a metal pin in it….which makes a pretty great joke gift for Valentine’s day. Or maybe a fancy cuff?

It’s a great starter for anyone who’d like to learn more about electronics. No previous experience needed!

Do you identify as a woman and have an interest in making games that are playable across web-capable devices? If so, NYCR & Code Liberation invite you to attend our Vector Graphics Game Development workshop using Processing!

If you’ve ever played an original Asteroids arcade game and thought “wish we could still make games that looked like that” Now we can! Trammell Hudson from NYC Resistor has developed some hardware that will allow us to drive the vector monitors to play a whole series of emulator games. We thought it’d be super fun to create original content for these gorgeous retro-graphic displays and were so excited we did a talk about it at this year’s Chaos Communications Congress: 32C3

This class is a collaboration with Code Liberation and is open to attendees who identify as women. As always, we ask that attendees read & abide by our Code of Conduct.
