Learn how to make a flexible, textile speaker. For anyone interested in electronic textiles, fabric arts, sewing, and DIY electronics.

Learn how to make your own flexible, soft speaker in this beginner-friendly workshop! We’ll start with an overview of the components of speakers and then introduce the materials we will use: conductive thread, copper tape, fabric, paper and an amp. We’ll explore how various materials result in different sound quality and volume. All materials provided, but you are welcome to bring any scrap fabric you would like to experiment with.

No electronics experience required. Some sewing experience is helpful but not necessary. For anyone interested in electronic textiles, fabric arts, sewing, and DIY electronics.

Your instructor:
Lily Crandall is a Brooklyn-based educator, creative technologist, and fiber artist exploring new ways to facilitate connection and play through collaborative art-making, workshops, and yarn. She received her masters degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and has taught workshops at New York Institute of Technology, The New School, Temple University, and Arizona State University. She is passionate about creating playful, accessible, educational, experiences and tools that bring people together.

This is a masks optional workshop.
