Want to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy AND learn Arduino at the same time?  There are still spots left in our Arduino 101 class tomorrow, and 50% of every dollar you spend for a class ticket will go towards hurricane relief efforts.  Specifically, we’ll donate to Red Hook NYC Recovers unless we have some compelling reasons to go elsewhere, or divide the spoils: suggestions welcome in the comments.  Red Hook is a neighborhood very close to NYC Resistor that was hit really hard, as you can see in the pictures. So join us for an afternoon of what we do best: learning, making, and sharing.

  1. Dear Resistors, thank so much for this assistance!

As a RH resident, the situation is extremely dire. Please, anyone who has a chance to bring food / water to the Red Hook Initiative at 402 Van Brunt on Sunday, the housing projecs are in need. I’m shocked at media that states power is restored; as I write this, most of my neighborhood is dark, without water, gas, or heat.

If anyone can pull any strings at the city level, we need officials here… the national guard and FEMA haven’t done much (maybe understandable given tragedies elsewhere). There is an absence of city help. We are functioning mostly with volunteers (700 today from outside RH!)

If you would like to donate $, I would encourage going elsewhere than the Recovers organization, which was formed just a few days ago. Please consider long established RH community organizations who have done years of hard work in making RH what it is today: the Red Hook Initiatve or Added Value (who run the Red Hook Farm, a huge supplier of affordable food to the projects).

A very heartfelt thanks to everyone for you support.
    Anne
