http://rdist.root.org/2008/04/30/history-of-tempest-and-side-channel-attacks/

In a time long past, I helped build a device to capture and recreate van eck emissions from a monitor and reconstruct the images. Considering that this is a hot topic in the news right now, this would be a relatively-easy and news-worthy project to work on.

There's an open source project called EckBox that does most of the work for you: http://eckbox.sourceforge.net/

Alternatively, since you guys are really into digital media-ish creations, here's an idea: create a device that turns monitor-emissions->sound, then play a song with a group of monitors by modulating their displays. A TEMPEST symphony!
